There has been a two week reprieve for the Aran Islands ferry service as discussions continue.
The service to Inis Mor was due to end on Sunday week Jan 17th but it’s been confirmed that it has been temporarily extended to Jan 31st to allow discussions continue about saving the service.
It’s understood operation costs and a levy are at the core of the decision to end the service.
The operator Island Ferries Teo had a meeting this evening with Galway County Council and Comharchumann Forbartha Árann.
A number of issues were discussed while other matters require further consideration.
County council officials in a statement to Galway Bay fm news said there will be an opportunity for the issues to be clarified at the January meeting of the Council.
In the meantime, Island Ferries Teo has confirmed the continuation of the existing and only ferry service to Oileáin Árann until the 31st January.
