Around 800 homes in County Galway are still without power this morning, following gusts overnight which reached 140km/h.
The county was hit by Storm Doris, and data from the Mace Head weather station shows winds averaged 100km/h between 2-3am and gusts hit 140km/h.
The storm left more than 2,600 homes in the county without power – many have since been restored, but at the moment, there are still around 800 without power in the Kilconnell, Aughrim, Caltra, Castleblakeney, Ahascragh, Menlough, Laurencetown and Eyrecourt areas.
Roads at Tullykyne National School and also at Clonberne National School were blocked due to fallen trees. Trees also fell at Cahermorris close to Peggy’s Bar and at Recess during the night, and on the Gort side of Kennedy Steel on the R347 Craughwell to Gort Road.
Motorists are advised to be cautious at the new roundabout at Kiltiernan National School and the Gort exit off the M18 due to wind blowing plastic barriers in front of traffic, and bollards are also down on the Western Distributor Road in Knocknacarra.
Aer Lingus has cancelled 12 flights to and from Dublin and Cork due to the high winds.
Passengers travelling on other airlines are advised to check the relevant websites.
Dee Collins from AA Roadwatch says motorists should take extreme care this morning.
