Galway Bay fm newsroom – It has been claimed there is no plan to save struggling Galway post offices as the Irish Postmasters’ Union walks away from talks with An Post.
Ned O’Hara, General Secretary of the IPU says long term solutions were outlined in the Kerr report, but that it has not been implemented.
Several rural post offices in Galway have already closed in recent years.
Carna post office has been closed since May despite efforts to find temporary staffing and Cappataggle post office closed in January 2015.
This afternoon the IPU protested in front of the Department of Communications to demand the government take action.
Ned O’Hara said there is agreement between An Post and the IPU on several points but that further talks were pointless without government involvement.
