The flood warning is in place from 9pm tonight until 9am tomorrow (Wednesday).

“A combination of strong winds, high tides and heavy rain brings the enhanced risk of coastal flooding overnight and at first tomorrow to exposed coastal areas,” Met Éireann has warned.

High tide for Galway is around 7am, with 5.2 metres.

South-westerly winds will strengthen overnight and will later veer North-west. There will be mean speeds of 50 to 65km/h, with gusts of around 90 km/h expected. Winds will be strongest in exposed coastal fringes.

The warning comes after serious flooding in Salthill last night, which left up to 25 cars written off at Toft Carpark in up to one metre of water.
