There is a suspected outbreak of the vomiting bug in two wards at University Hospital Galway.
Hospital authorities are asking people to comply with visitor restrictions on St Mary’s and St Teresa’s wards due to a number of suspected cases of Norovirus.
In order to assist staff in curtailing the spread of this virus, UHG says it’s imperative that only essential visiting takes place.
Also, children should not visit the hospital as they may be particularly susceptible to the illness.
Visitors are also advised that they must use the alcohol hand gels supplied as they enter and leave the hospital.
Infection control procedures are in place and will remain so until further notice.
Anyone who has experienced nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhoea within the last 48 hours or who has a household member who has, is asked not to visit UHG.
The hospital is recommending that members of the public who are experiencing these symptoms should phone their local GP before presenting at the local practice.
