The most popular baby names registered in Galway have been revealed.
Data from the Central Statistics Office shows that Jack and Emily are the most popular names nationwide – but Galway’s babies somewhat bucked the trend.
Jack is the most popular boys name across Ireland for the tenth year in a row – however, the name hasn’t struck a cord in Galway City where Adam was the first choice last year.
In the county, Conor was the number one boys name registered last year, knocking 2014’s favourite ‘Jack’ off the top spot.
Meanwhile, Lauren was the most popular choice for girls in Galway City, while her counterpart in the county was in line with the nations favourite, ‘Emily’.
The top five boys names in Ireland last year were Jack, James, Daniel, Conor and Sean – while the top five girls names were Emily, Emma, Ava, Sophie and Amelia.
It marks a big change in the 50 years since 1965 – when the most popular names included John, Patrick, Michael, Margaret, Anne and Mary.
